The research group Ageing and Elder Care brings together researchers with an interest in older people’s living conditions, social vulnerability in relation to ageing, and support and care for older adults.

Our Research

The research group Ageing and Elder Care is grounded in social science research on older people’s living conditions and the prevalence of social vulnerability in relation to ageing. This includes, for example, studies on income support for older adults and poverty, as well as ageing with long-term drug use. Social work with older adults can take different forms but is largely carried out within the elder care sector. Elder care is tasked with ensuring a dignified life and well-being for older people, while simultaneously functioning as an organisation that must be sustainable for staff and support a good working environment. This is studied, among other things, by focusing on the value base of eldercare, on how communication functions between staff and older residents in residential care facilities, and on the professional and organisational conditions of eldercare. Family members also play a significant role in relation to ageing and elder care. One project within the research group focuses on supporting family carers of relatives with dementia, primarily by providing knowledge and information.

Our research group encompasses a wide range of research projects of varying scope and has a strong tradition of collaboration with external stakeholders.
