The number of people admitted to Malmö University is increasing in both education programmes and courses; the newly-started dental hygienist programme being one of the most in demand educations.

In total, 17,330 people have been admitted, which is an increase of 15 per cent compared to last year – a total of 33,168 applied. The most popular programmes are in sociology, nursing, and criminology.

“All in all, this is a very positive admissions round, the best we've had in a long time. It shows that the University is on the right track both when it comes to increasing the number of admissions and the work we do to raise the quality of our educations and make them more attractive,” says Mats Edenius, pro-vice-chancellor.

The University has also increased its range of courses and more of the courses are held remotely.
“Distance education is a trend we see not only at Malmö University but all over Sweden,” said Edenius, adding: “It's a trend we believe will continue.”

The number of programmes requiring high grades, where students need more than 20 credits, continues to decrease compared to previous years. Interaction Design is an example of a programme that no longer requires top grades. Master's programmes in Media and Communication Studies, Graphic Design, Dental Hygiene, and Dentistry remain the most difficult to enter and require the highest grades.

The number of applicants per programme place is also lower than last year, which means that it is comparatively easier to be admitted. The dental hygienist programme, which starts in autumn 2023, is one of the programmes with the highest number of applications.
