Interest in studying at Malmö University is at an all-time high – in total, nearly 45,000 people have applied for this autumn’s programmes and courses: the programmes attracting the most applicants are those for social work, nursing, and dentistry.

“It is truly gratifying to see such high interest in our degree programmes and courses. Our programmes and our students make a significant contribution to several key areas of society. It is very pleasing that this is also so clearly reflected in the admissions statistics,” says Andreas Jacobsson, deputy vice-chancellor at Malmö University.

Admissions figures for the spring application period (15 March – 15 April) show that the total number of applicants for autumn courses at the University was 44,803. This represents an increase of just over 13 per cent compared with last year and is the highest number of applicants for the University in the last ten years. Last year and the year before, the corresponding application figures rose by between two and six per cent.

As in previous years, the programmes attracting the most applicants are those leading to degrees in social work, nursing, and dentistry. Meanwhile, the most sought-after courses are the distance learning courses.

“Lifelong learning and ensuring the continued supply of skills to society are becoming increasingly important tasks in a changing world. We have therefore been working strategically and purposefully for a long time to expand our range of courses in a number of important fields,” adds Jacobsson.

The total number of applicants to courses at all the country’s universities and colleges increased by just over three per cent on average compared with the previous year (from 411,200 to 424,113).
