About the project
The growing demand for palliative care highlights the critical role of nurse managers, whose competencies in palliative care are essential for ensuring high-quality care, supporting the ongoing development of healthcare professionals, and maintaining the effective functioning of care organisations. In Sweden, the majority of patients with palliative care needs receive general palliative care within municipal care settings, including nursing homes and home care. Additionally, nurses' performance in palliative care is often closely linked to their managers' competencies. Therefore, to address the knowledge gap regarding nurse managers' awareness and competencies in palliative care, there is a clear need for a deeper understanding of these competencies in order to enhance care delivery and improve the quality of palliative care in municipal care settings.
