About the project
Sexuality education is integral to the development of adolescents, providing them with essential knowledge and skills to navigate their sexual and reproductive health (SRH) responsibly. However, the results of sexuality education vary widely across different socio-cultural contexts, resulting in disparities in adolescent SRH outcomes. The aim of this application is to initiate a collaboration, utilising workshops, between the University of South Africa in Pretoria (UNISA) and Malmö University (MaU). Ultimately, these workshops will lead to a larger application for a joint research project to be submitted in 2026. The area of knowledge in question is sexuality research, where the project team wants to conduct a comparative study. During the workshops, participants from UNISA and from MaU will work on visiting different activities in each country that are of interest to the project, as well as working on writing the application. Study visits can increase understanding of the challenges faced by each country, which is important for planning a comparative study. This will provide the foundation for a comparative study addressing disparities in sexuality education across socio-cultural contexts in South Africa and Sweden. The workshops will generate key outputs, including reports, policy briefs, and a joint research proposal.
