Project description

The aim of this project is to explore the impact of waiting in the case of family reunification in Sweden. The thesis combines migration studies with public health science and departs from literature about waiting and time in migration processes. By combining document analysis and interviews with case workers, families, and others in the family reunification process, the project wishes to create a holistic image of the phenomenon and understand how professionals and families approach and are affected by time and waiting.

A holistic approach is especially important to understand the consequences of policy change in a field undergoing quick and considerable changes. The project, therefore, contributes with knowledge of current topics and theories of waiting, by adding a collective, transnational and intersectional understanding of the phenomenon.
