About the project
As the population is aging, the prevalence of age-related health risks increases such as fall, pressure ulcers, malnutrition and poor oral health. These health risks can lead to consequences in form of deteriorated health status, with reduced quality of life and increased risk of mortality, and for the society in terms of increased health care costs. Complex care needs among frail elderly living in nursing homes put high demands on health care personnel. In order to prevent health care need among elderly and decrease health care costs for instance, it requires that health care personnel work preventive in nursing care. Prevention in nursing care means avoiding damage and leading to a safe and equal care to elderly in need of health care services. Using the quality registry Senior Alert could generate increased knowledge in the preventive nursing care and improve quality and equality of nursing care regarding fall, pressure ulcers, malnutrition and poor oral health among elderly living in nursing homes.
The overall aim is to develop, test and evaluate an intervention in order to decrease fall, pressure ulcers, malnutrition and poor oral health among elderly living in nursing homes in Malmö and are registered in the quality registry Senior Alert.
