About the project
The future of work takes place in a changing global environment with digitalization bringing with it new sets of inequalities that complicate the notion of work. As tech revolutions occur slowly and unevenly, it is important to include perspectives from so-called “losers” of digitalization and globalization. Perspectives from the margins are pivotal because marginalized communities are understudied and solidarity here is often forgotten. There is also a lack of acknowledgement of these workers in these contexts as drivers of change and innovators of the future. We seek to inform research on the future of digital work with perspectives from the margins of the global digital work ecosystem. Most research has focused on specialists’ visions in leading tech environments in the Globalized North. By bringing together scholars in Sweden with researchers from the Global South (India and South Africa) and researchers studying the shadows of the platform economy (on-demand platform and gig work(ers)), we aim to broaden research equally.
