Project description

The overarching aim of this project is to understand the challenges and opportunities to ensure sexual and reproductive health (SRH) equity in Sweden focusing on migrant sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR). The project has three specific aims:

  • Specific aim 1: Examine: a) how migrants were represented in the discourses embedded within Swedish SRHR-related policies, and b) how migrants’ SRHR-related issues were framed and addressed within these discourses (Study I).
  • Specific aim 2: Examine healthcare providers’ accounts of encounters with migrants when providing SRH services in Sweden by focusing on a) challenges and dilemmas experienced by healthcare providers during the encounters, and b) their strategies for navigating these challenges and dilemmas, and c) assumptions underlying healthcare providers’ accounts (Study II).
  • Specific aim 3: a) Explore the encounters of young people with migration experiences with SRH services and their understandings of factors that affect their use of these services, b) explore sexuality discourses among young people with migration experiences in Sweden (Study III).
