Literacy and Inclusive Teaching
Literacy and Inclusive Teaching (LIT)
The Research Centre for Literacy and Inclusive Teaching (LIT) conducts interdisciplinary research on literacy and inclusive teaching in various school subjects and in higher education. Our research projects are often conducted in close collaboration with teachers and schools.
We conduct interdisciplinary and practice-oriented research of high social relevance. Our research centre wants to contribute in an integrated and multidimensional way with in-depth knowledge about literacy and the important role of language in teaching and learning.
Pia Nygård Larsson and Anders Jakobsson, director and research leader of LIT
Our research
The Research Centre for Literacy and Inclusive Teaching (LIT) aims to contribute with in-depth knowledge about the role of language in learning and the literacies that students encounter in various school subjects and in higher education. The research at LIT is interdisciplinary and addresses societal challenges related to educational success, equity, sustainability, and inclusion.
The research at the centre is conducted within eight work packages. Within the first work package, all researchers collaborate on common issues and concepts relating to literacy and inclusive teaching in theory and practice. The focus is, among other things, disciplinary literacy, multilingualism, language and knowledge development, critical literacy, multimodality, social justice and sustainability.
To a large extent, research at LIT is conducted within the other seven work packages where several researchers collaborate within various research projects. These work packages are:
- Mathematical literacy
- Science and technology literacy
- Social science literacy
- Language, literacy and multilingualism
- Academic literacy in higher education
- Sustainability, action competence and climate literacy
- Digital literacy, media literacy and AI literacy
LIT is an educational science research centre based at the Faculty of Education and Society at Malmö University. Research of high national and international relevance is conducted at the centre.

Collaboration
The Research Centre for Literacy and Inclusive Teaching (LIT) has a close collaboration with teachers, schools and other stakeholders. Collaboration in various projects is often a prerequisite for our research. Our researchers also collaborate with various actors at national, regional and local level through a range of different activities, seminars and lectures.
Organisation
The Advisory Board's role is to provide expertise, advice and guidance to the LIT. It comprises members who are experts in areas relevant to the Centre's research.
