Research in focus: School
in the classroom
Classrooms are complex and dynamic arenas for imparting knowledge and democratic values. At Malmö University, we conduct research on teaching, learning and inclusion from many perspectives, taking in issues including sustainability, language development, multilingualism, anti-racist practices, maths and sex education. The focus is on the future of teaching and equality in education.
Research projects
Our reserach spans several areas, from teaching methodologies and learning environments to inclusion and identity. The focus is on sustainability, language learning, maths, sex education, cultural heritage, school choice and learning resources. Research explores how we can promote equality, critical thinking and health in the classroom, and how societal and historical factors shape education.

Exploring knowledge, meaning, and education in research
On movement skills as knowledge
On movement skills as knowledge
How do we learn to feel confident when moving our bodies? How can different perspectives on knowledge and learning affect the subject of sport and health? Gunn Nyberg is a professor of sport science specialising in pedagogy. A film about Gunn Nyberg's research illustrated by Oskar Aspman.
Big questions small people
Big questions small people
Liselott Mariett Olsson's research is about how children create meaning and ask questions about existential, philosophical and metaphysical problems, and how preschools can help children explore these issues.
Is education a private or a public good?

Is education a private or a public good?
Hanna Sjögren's research looks at how the Swedish state school sector presents school choice to parents and how this shapes understandings of the fundamental aims and responsibilities of education. Far from being a unified system, uneven market logic results in different experiences for parents dependent on where they live.
Multilingualism
Supporting pupils' language development
Supporting pupils' language development
Pia Nygård Larsson's research focuses on how teachers can support pupils to develop language and subject literacy through inclusive language.
How we see multilingualism needs to be advanced

How we see multilingualism needs to be advanced
The value of knowing more languages and how this knowledge should be practically utilised in schools is not consistent with research. So finds researcher Adrian Lundberg, who is the editor of the latest special issue of International Journal of Multilingualism.
Maths teaching from the students' perspective

Maths teaching from the students' perspective
Read a study by Petra Svensson Källberg and Helena Roos, senior lecturers in mathematics education, exploring the significance of a student perspective in mathematics education research. The study analyses the intentionality of research texts and highlights how context and discourse shape the student perspective.
