Om kursen

The course provides an advanced introduction to the theoretical and numerical foundations for the analysis of materials and structures using the finite element method (FEM). Students are introduced to fundamental tensor algebra as well as various strain and stress measures used to describe deformation and loading in materials. The course covers both linear and nonlinear formulations of deformation, with particular emphasis on constitutive models for hyperelastic and elastoplastic materials. The finite element method is presented as a central tool for formulating and solving boundary value problems involving both small and large deformations.

In addition to the theoretical foundations, the course addresses practical aspects of numerical implementation, including the formulation of element equations, boundary conditions, and solution algorithms for nonlinear problems. The course thus provides both a theoretical understanding and practical insight into how modern finite element software is developed and applied in research and engineering practice.

MA625E: Applied Mathematics with Technical Programming, 15 credits

In addition to the formal entry requirements, the student is expected to have knowledge equivalent to the course:
MA626E: Numerical Analysis and Machine Learning.

Kursvärdering
