Om kursen

The course is a project-based course at second-cycle level in Materials Science in which students work in groups on an in-depth materials science problem linked to a realistic technical or scientific application. The project may be carried out using experimental methods, computational modelling and simulation, or a combination of these approaches. The project work is conducted under supervision and aims to prepare the student for independent work within research, development or qualified engineering practice. The course provides opportunities to deepen knowledge of the analysis of material behaviour and the relationship between material structure and properties, with particular emphasis on problem formulation, choice of methods, analysis and interpretation of results, and scientific reporting and presentation.

Kursinnehåll

The student works in project form with a materials science problem linked to a realistic technical or scientific application. The project may be carried out using experimental methods, such as small- and wide-angle X-ray scattering (SAXS/WAXS) or microscopy, and/or using computational modelling and simulation. The project work includes formulation of the problem, selection and justification of methods, analysis and interpretation of results, and establishing links between material structure and properties. Relevant aspects of sustainable development and resource efficiency shall be considered throughout the project work, for example in the choice of materials, methods and applications. The project group is jointly responsible for planning, implementation, documentation and presentation of the project, as well as reflection on the work process and learning.

Kursvärdering

Malmö University provides students who participate in, or who have completed a course, with the opportunity to express their opinions and describe their experiences of the course by completing a course evaluation administered by the University. The University will compile and summarise the results of course evaluations. The University will also inform participants of the results and any decisions relating to measures taken in response to the course evaluations. The results will be made available to the students (HF 1:14).
