Urban Studies, US, is a multi-disciplinary department with exciting and multifaceted urban research and study programmes. The department focuses on a broad spectrum of issues relating to society and urban areas, real estate and housing, planning, organisation and public transport – nationally and internationally.

Urban Studies are based on people's needs and conditions and contribute to the development of sustainable and attractive cities. We offer a wide range of courses and study programmes, from the environment, real estate brokerage, real estate business and urban planning to transport management, leadership and organisation and business administration.

Research environment at Urban Studies

Our research is multi-disciplinary and investigates urban migration, urban ecology, urban economics, mobility and social sustainability, urban regeneration and smart cities. Our researchers work in a collaborative and interdisciplinary way in research centres and with organisations and companies.

Current events at Urban Studies

Guy Baeten and Carina Listerborn at The Institute for Urban Research and The Department of Urban Studies have been awarded an environment grant on the social consequences of digitalisation from the Swedish Research Council. The project is titled “Housing as a digitalised service“ and will run from 2025 to 2030 (6 years). The grant is SEK 16 700 000. Digitalization is today an integral part of how we dwell, not only because of new smart home technologies, but also because new housing developments are built with digital infrastructures and/or based on digital platform services. This project addresses the societal consequences of this type of digitalisation and explores how it is redefining how we dwell and turning housing into a digitized service.
