Mateo Villamil-Valencia is adjunct lecturer (Universitetsadjunkt) in Peace and Conflict Studies at the Department of Global Political Studies. He has worked previously at Complutense University of Madrid and Caldas University. He studied within the Department of Social Psychology and Social Anthropology at the Complutense University, achieving a Bsc in Sociology and a PhD in Antrhopology (supervisors: Concepción Fernández Villanueva and Simone Belli). He also got his Masters with Distinction in Political Studies from the National University of Colombia.

His research and teaching is very interdisciplinary while focusing on the psychosocial aspects of social transformation and collective action. Within this frame he works hand to hand with psychology of emotions, grounded theory, ethnographic field work, applied sociology, decolonial geopolitics, linguistics and Lacanian studies. He has been Erasmus+ student and trainee at Utrecht University and Rethinking Democracy (REDEM) at Malmö Uni, where he made part of the project 'Participation in Artificial Intelligence and Healthcare'.
